Resident Commissioner Rejects the Use of Official Vehicle in Washington Paid for by PRFAA
Unlike Previous Resident Commissioners, Hernández chooses not to use the official vehicle in Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Puerto Rico Resident Commissioner Pablo José Hernández Rivera announced that he has declined the use of the official vehicle traditionally provided to Resident Commissioners for their duties in Washington, D.C. by the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA).
Past Resident Commissioners, including Governor Jenniffer González Colón, have used or acquired official vehicles funded by Puerto Rican taxpayers for their official duties. In 2018, Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González Colón acquired a $64,000 SUV, not including the costs of shipping it from Puerto Rico to Washington, for use in the federal capital.
“While Puerto Rico’s office will continue using the two vehicles currently assigned to it, I have declined the vehicle assigned to me in Washington. I don’t need an official car to do my job in the federal capital. I walk from my apartment to my office, take the metro, and when I need a car, I order one through an app. The expense of the last vehicle purchased for the Resident Commissioner’s office was excessive, reckless, and frankly, shameful,” said Hernández Rivera.
