CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES
Resident Commissioner Pablo José Hernández serves on the House Committee on Homeland Security and House Committee on Natural Resources in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The House Committee on Homeland Security has jurisdiction over the security of the United States, including border security, counterterrorism, cybersecurity, disaster response, and emergency preparedness. Hernández is the first Resident Commissioner to serve on this committee.
The House Committee on Natural Resources oversees America’s public lands, oceans, energy development, and natural resources, as well as U.S. territories and Native American affairs. The Committee plays a critical role in issues affecting Puerto Rico’s land use, energy policy, and territorial status.
CONGRESSIONAL CAUCUSES
The Resident Commissioner, Pablo José Hernández, is a member of several key congressional caucuses that amplify Puerto Rico’s voice and strengthen its impact in national policy debates.
Congressional Territories and Commonwealths Caucus: Hernández is the co-founder and co-chair of the Congressional Territories and Commonwealths Caucus, a bipartisan group focused on advancing policies that address the unique economic, democratic, and governance challenges facing U.S. territories and commonwealths.
Congressional Friends of Spain Caucus: Hernández serves as co-chair of the Congressional Friends of Spain Caucus, which promotes strong diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between the United States and Spain. The caucus engages Members of Congress on transatlantic cooperation, trade, security, and shared democratic values.
Congressional Hispanic Caucus: Hernández is a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, which advocates for policies that improve economic opportunity, health care access, education, and civil rights for Latino communities across the United States and its territories.
New Democrat Coalition: Hernández is a member of the New Democrat Coalition, a group of forward-looking lawmakers committed to pragmatic, solutions-oriented policies that strengthen the economy, promote innovation, support working families, and modernize government.
Congressional Equality Caucus: Hernández is a member of this caucus focused on advancing LGBTQ+ rights and protections, reinforcing his commitment to ensuring Puerto Ricans are treated equally under federal law and have access to inclusive policies.
