DPCC Chair Presents Puerto Rico Resident Commissioner with “John Lewis Award” in Recognition of Floor Speeches

Award honors the late Congressman John Lewis and recognizes Democratic members of Congress who give the most floor speeches
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Resident Commissioner Pablo José Hernández of Puerto Rico has been awarded the John Lewis Award by Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.), Chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC). The award, named after the legendary civil rights leader, Congressman John Lewis, recognizes Democratic members of Congress who deliver the most speeches on the House floor.
“I’m honored to receive the John Lewis Award,” said Hernández. “As Puerto Rico’s representative before the U.S. Congress and federal government, I will always fight for our Island and use my voice to highlight the issues and challenges facing Puerto Ricans — from economic development to our electric grid crisis and the fight for equal federal benefits.”
“Resident Commissioner Rep. Pablo Jose Hernandez has earned the John Lewis Award for his extraordinary commitment to speaking on the House Floor on behalf of the people of Puerto Rico. His hard work in service to his constituents is commendable, and the DPCC is proud to present him with this award,” said Dingell, Chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee.
In his first 100 days in office, the Resident Commissioner has delivered more floor speeches than any of his predecessors in recent history. He has consistently used the House floor to elevate the voices of Puerto Ricans and advocate for federal action on issues impacting the Island.
