FEMA Funds Assigned for the Implementation of Emergency Protective Measures Following Hurricane Fiona

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Resident Commissioner Pablo José Hernández Rivera announced the allocation of $1,854,481.23 in federal funds through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This allocation is intended to finance emergency services resulting directly from the impact of Hurricane Fiona, under disaster declaration FEMA-DR-4671-PR. This funding has been authorized under Section 403 of the Robert T. Stafford Act, with the goal of ensuring the protection of public health and safety from the damages caused by the natural disaster.

“With these funds, Puerto Rico will continue to strengthen its disaster response capacity, ensuring recovery and the protection of its citizens against future emergency events,” said Hernández Rivera.

As the entity responsible for electricity generation, distribution, and transmission in Puerto Rico, PREPA activated a series of contracts to ensure the provision of emergency services. These contracts covered various essential activities, including the supply of potable water to cisterns, vehicle towing, the rental and maintenance of portable restrooms, oil and diesel spill clean-up, and the restoration of affected buildings, electrical equipment, and roadways across the island.

The services provided under these contracts were carried out in accordance with PREPA’s procurement policies and were executed between September 18 and November 16, 2022. The total cost of this project is $1,854,481.23, which will be fully funded by the federal government, covering 100% of the cost, as required under the Federal Register Notice #16.
