These federal allocations will strengthen recovery efforts in the municipalities of Guayanilla and San Lorenzo

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Resident Commissioner Pablo José Hernández announced today the approval of two federal allocations by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) totaling over $3.4 million in funds aimed at supporting the recovery of the municipalities of Guayanilla and San Lorenzo following the damages caused by Hurricane Fiona. These funds will support both debris removal and permanent repairs to critical road infrastructure.

“During the impact of Hurricane Fiona, a significant amount of debris and vegetative material accumulated throughout the municipality of Guayanilla. This posed an immediate threat to property, health, and general safety. The recovery process is ongoing, and we will continue working to ensure every community receives the resources it needs,” said Commissioner Hernández Rivera.

The Municipality of Guayanilla will receive $1.88 million out of a total of $2.09 million under the Public Assistance Alternative Procedures Program to cover debris removal operations. Meanwhile, the Puerto Rico Department of Transportation and Public Works will receive $1.54 million out of a total of $1.71 million to carry out permanent repairs on sections of roads PR-912, PR-913, and PR-9929 in San Lorenzo, as well as implement mitigation measures to prevent future damage.
