Resident Commissioner Pablo José Hernández Shares Televised Message on His First 100 Days in Washington

The two-minute message summarizes the Resident Commissioner’s impressions and actions during his first 100 days in Washington; it is part of a series and was recorded before the Holy Week blackout and therefore does not mention it
SAN JUAN, P.R. – Puerto Rico’s Resident Commissioner, Pablo José Hernández, will present a two-minute televised message this evening summarizing his impressions and actions during his first 100 days in Congress. The message, which will also be available on his social media platforms, is part of a new series of efforts to communicate directly with the people of Puerto Rico.
“In 100 days, I’ve introduced more legislation as a lead sponsor than my predecessors did in the same period, and I’ve been recognized for my speeches on the House floor. But this is just the beginning. Puerto Rico is not alone in Washington,” says Hernández in the message.
In the message, Hernández warns about the challenges he has identified during his first months in Washington and highlights his initial legislative efforts in key areas such as economic development, the reconstruction of the electric grid, and the protection of federal funding.
The message, which was recorded before the April 17 blackout and thus does not reference it, represents an experimental shift in the use of the official communication mechanism known as franking, which allows members of Congress to communicate with constituents using publicly funded resources already allocated by law.
“Traditionally, resident commissioners send a long mailer, but we want to experiment with more effective ways to communicate with the people,” said the resident commissioner.
The message will be broadcast today on TV and radio and will be published simultaneously on the Resident Commissioner’s official platforms on Facebook, Instagram, and X (Twitter).
